May 31, 2023 — The beloved band, Waterparks, brought in an incredible crowd for their SOLD OUT show at Atlanta’s Buckhead Theatre for their “The Property” Tour.

Waterparks is a multi-genre band that originated in Houston, Texas in 2011 and consists of three members; Awsten Knight (lead singer), Geoff Wigington (guitarist), and Otto Wood (drummer). Their newest album, Intellectual Property, was recently released in April, with the tour announced not long after.

The intimate venue’s setup allowed every fan to get a good glimpse of the stage. (I’m 5 '2, was in the back of the crowd, and I could still see pretty well!)

By the time I got there, the crowd was slam packed. It started at the barricade and flooded its way back to the double doors that separates the lobby from the showroom. Waterparks started their set right on time they were scheduled and put on one heck of a show! Their set started off with the song ‘“Starf*cker.”

With a crazy digital background and odd outfits, the show was like an in-movie experience. Each song had its own background visuals to match the energy and themes. The sound quality was great and I could hear every song perfectly.

After a few songs, lead singer Awsten would walk around the stage and talk to the crowd. He would crack jokes and do his usual interaction by teasing some fans, to really get the crowd riled up and increase their energy.

‘Last year you told me to shut up!” a fan yelled from the front of the crowd. Awsten stopped in his tracks and gave her an odd look. He repeated what she said and she yelled back in agreement. He paced a little back and forth for a little bit then replied with something along the lines of ‘Well shut the f*ck up!!” which caused him, the fan, and the rest of the crowd to laugh. He then continued to be the rockstar that he is throughout the rest of the night.

I have been to multiple Waterparks shows in the past couple of years, and I have to say they top each show every time! They definitely went all out with this one, and the energy that night was immaculate.

Additionally, at every show I have been to, the fans and the band themselves are always so nice. I have never felt so safe at a concert before. It is such a welcoming environment. Buckhead Theatre is also a great venue with helpful and friendly staff.

An example of this is when Awsten would stop after a few songs and ask how the crowd was and made sure security was around. He would also prepare the group of fans that were in the front for the mosh pit, so they were aware of what was going to happen. He would let everyone get ready and back up if they didn't want to participate. If anyone wanted to bodysurf, he would double-check to make sure the security was ready to catch them. He even made a joke that night that the South has buff security guards and there was no way we would get dropped if we body-surfed. The crowd and Awsten also made a song for body surfing, which was named ‘ Body Surfing in the Dark.’

The night ended with their song “Funeral Gray.” The crowd screamed as hard as they could and jumped around. The sounds rang through the venue. It felt like a magical way to end the night. Awsten thanked us again before walking off the stage. The crowd walked out calmly without shoving anybody, which rarely happens in a concert setting like this.

Overall, this night was amazing! The vibe, production, and environment were everything a fan could ask for. If you have never attended a Waterparks show, it is a must! It will be an unforgettable night.
