June 8, 2023 — On June 8th, alternative singer Matt Maeson played an epic show at the Beacham in Orlando, Florida on his “That’s My Cue” tour. A crowd of all ages showed up and filled the entire venue.

The supporting act for this show, Mikey Ferrari, welcomed the crowd with his comforting voice and emotional songs. He was joined on stage by his bear statue “Boss” and good friend, Gwendolyn, who sang a few songs with him.

Matt Maeson took the stage at 9pm and opened with an unreleased song titled “That’s My Cue”. This show was different than many of the other concerts I have been to. Maeson immerses his fans in the stories of the songs that he sings by explaining the circumstances and situations he was experiencing in his life when writing them. For me, this helped to visualize the place he was in and feel the emotions behind the songs more. One of my favorite stories he shared was about his experience spending a night sleeping on the roof of an abandoned Wendy’s. He also shared his experience early on in his career where he would play some of these same songs for small groups in dive bars and how he now gets to share them with a much larger audience.

His stage set up is very raw and truly is about the music. With a simple set up, the music was the star of the show. He used a variety of guitars and a piano to compliment his set. Midway through the show, Maeson gave the crowd an option to pick between his songs “Turbulation” and “Feel Good”. Ultimately, the crowd picked “Feel Good”. There was a good amount of crowd interaction that often led to laughter from the crowd. The setlist included hits such as “Hallucinogenics”, “Cringe”, and “Rational” that fans sang out loudly.

It is no doubt that Matt Maeson’s music is special and a must-see show.
