April 15, 2023 — On Saturday 15th April, Mimi Webb took to the stage in Leeds, performing at the 02 Academy to a sold out crowd. Both Mimi and crowd were both full of energy and excitement and it was a pleasure to watch the crowd singing and dancing with Mimi the whole night long.
Before Mimi took to the stage, there were two supporting acts who warmed up the crowd, getting them ready for the main act: Henry Moodie and Blake Rose. I have had the pleasure of watching Henry Moodie perform before, therefore I knew the crowd were in for a treat. I was delighted when Henry kicked off his set with his new single “eighteen” as it’s one of my current favourite songs. Blake Rose was a new name to me. However, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. My favourite song had to be “Lost”, a track all about missing someone you love, and it was definitely well received by the crowd with people swaying and singing along throughout. Both support acts got the crowd involved and the audience was singing and clapping along to their songs. Both Blake Rose and Henry Moodie are most definitely names to watch out for on the music scene, as I feel there are big things coming their way.
The anticipation in 02 Academy grew and grew throughout the interval. People chatting about what they thought Mimi’s opening song would be, what outfit she’d be wearing or just generally about how excited they were. The lights went down and screams of excitement filled the 02 Academy as the beautiful Mimi Webb strutted out on stage full of energy, ready to put on a phenomenal performance. She was dressed in a stunning black jumpsuit, covered in sequins and gems which looked incredible under the lights.
Mimi kicked off the night with one of my personal favourite songs, “Ghost of You”. The crowd was belting out the words, jumping in excitement and it was so evident being on stage for Mimi is one of her favourite places. She was constantly singing with a beaming smile across her face. One thing that struck me about Mimi’s performance was her incredible stage presence engaging with the crowd constantly, smiling and waving at screaming fans as well as always encouraging everyone to belt out the lyrics. Mimi is a true talent and excels on the stage!
As the set progressed, Mimi performed a range of hits including “24/5”, “Both of Us” and “Good Without” to name a few. The energy in the venue continued to grow throughout the night with the crowd continuously singing the lyrics louder with each song Mimi performed. In the middle of the set, Mimi slowed things down and played a gorgeous stripped back version of “Amelia”. The moment was truly beautiful as the whole venue sung along. The song “Amelia” is evidently a song Mimi feels is very special and is sentimental to her as it discusses her younger self and the messages she wishes she’d been able to give herself. There was a true sense of community during this song with Mimi starting it off by saying “at the end of the day we’re all in this together”. The atmosphere in the 02 Academy was something very special and highlighted truly how Mimi has an incredible relationship with her fans and always wants to be there for them.
Mimi continued with the a couple more slower songs: “Before I Go” and “Last Train to London”. “Before I Go” which is a personal favourite, is a beautifully written song about a relationship coming to end and wanting to pause time to cherish the special moments. This song was very well received by the Leeds crowd with people holding hands, swaying side to side, singing the words back at Mimi.
Mimi then picked up the tempo and pace for the final two songs, “Red Flag” and “House on Fire”. These were most definitely crowd favourites and Mimi was feeding off the incredible energy coming from the audience, bouncing up and down the stage. Overall, Mimi Webb’s Leeds show was truly phenomenal, full of so much energy and a pleasure to watch and photograph. I am looking forward to seeing what Mimi has lined up next and with performances like this one it won’t be long before she is selling out even bigger venues across the UK.
